Justice For Reynaldo Cuevas - FTP March And Vigil
Where: East 169th Street & Franklin Ave. Bronx, NY
When: December 22, 5pm
On September 7th, 2012, a bodega in Bronx, New York was being robbed by three armed masked men. Two of the workers were able to escape during the robbery, the first man ran out towards police with his hands on his head. The second man, 20 year old Reynaldo Cuevas, ran towards the police but tripped over a fire hydrant. Cops then shot him without saying a word. The officer dragged Reynaldo 25 feet away and left him to bleed for 20 minutes even after witnesses yelled at them, informing them that he was an employee.
A few days later, on September 12th, the community held a vigil for Reynaldo and marched with his family to the 42nd precinct to demand justice (video). Since then, the Cuevas family has held a candlelight vigil for Reynaldo every Saturday at the corner of the block where he was killed.
Less than two months later on October 27th, the NYPD rammed into the dirt bike which Reynaldo’s cousin and friend were riding. One of the riders, 20 year old Ronald Herrera, died a week later. Reynaldo’s cousin, Loenel Reynaldo, is now paralyzed from the accident. A witness from the scene says the NYPD rammed into the dirt bike purposely.
The community is outraged and we want answers. Join us Saturday, December 22nd for a candle-light vigil and a Fuck The Police march with the Cuevas family to the PSA 7 precinct to demand justice and accountability.

Ronald Herrera the 20 year old on the dirt bike, was my cousin.

The French justice minister has been critical of US police violence after the Ferguson decision. She tweeted Bob Marley’s lyric “Kill them before they grow” referring to teenagers shot down by law enforcers.
Justice Minister Christiane Taubira tweeted in French, saying “Michael Brown, racial profiling, social exclusion, territorial segregation, cultural marginalization, guns, fear, fatal cocktail!”
Then, she published a tweet in English.
How old was #Mickael Brown ? 18. #TrayvonMartin ? 17. #TamirRice? 12. How old next? 12 month? ‘Kill them before they grow’ Bob Marley ChT
Taubira later explained to France Info radio that she had expressed solidarity “in an extremely painful situation.”
“I am not making a value judgment on United States institutions [but] when the feeling of frustration is so strong, so deep, so lasting and massive, you have to ask yourself about the trust in these institutions,” said the minister.
“One realizes this only happens to the same people, African American kids. So there is the problem of a certain number of clichés, portrayals, prejudices which can create terrible reflexes,” she added.
French Government spokesman Stephane Le Foll said, referring to the situation, that “one shouldn’t comment about what’s going on in the US” as the country “has its own rules and procedures.”
He added that everyone should “turn their thumb 10 times” before tweeting, an expression in French that roughly means holding one’s tongue before speaking.
Taubira, who took office in 2012, also came under fire from political opponents over her comments.
The right-wing mayor of the city of Nice criticized Taubira for thinking it "appropriate to judge the American justice system" and said the fact that she remains the French justice minister made him "ashamed for my country."
Taubira has been the subject of prejudice and racism scandals for some time: earlier this year, ex-candidate for municipal elections, Anne-Sophie Leclere, known for her far-right leanings, received a nine-month prison sentence and a hefty fine after publishing a photo of Taubira with a monkey.
"I prefer to see her swinging in a tree than to see her in government," Leclere said.
Last year, the right-wing French magazine, Minute, published a cover story bearing the title “Taubira Finds Her Banana.”
What. The fuck
I’m honestly so thankful for tumblr at times like these bc these little articles and stories and anecdotes and snippets - are waking me the hell up and educating the fuh out of me.

So my facebook friend just posted this pic with this text….
Well, I just witnessed blatant racial injustice with my own eyes. I was getting in my car after exiting a store when a young black man stumbled past me and collapsed against the store wall. When I got out to see if he was okay, a group of white people came rushing over, one of whom was a 20-something white woman who declared in distress, “I ran a red light and hit him with my car!” People immediately assured her that SHE would be okay, meanwhile the young man is writhing in pain on the ground, pants leg torn, tears running down his face. When the police arrived and the young woman explained what happened, it was suggested to her that maybe the light had been yellow and that the young man had “darted out into the street into her path.” I was floored. I said, “But she just SAID she ran the red light and hit him in the intersection!”
friendly reminder that studies have shown that white people do not empathize with Black people and we (including medical personel) also think Black people feel less pain
This is horrifying
Share the hell out of this kinda shit and speak up when you see it
Once again, SPEAK UP WHEN YOU SEE IT!

Trayvon Martin would have been celebrating his 19th birthday today
The media would NEVER show this picture of him with this Experience Aviation jumpsuit on because it shows that he was a human. An intellectual. It shows that he had dreams and aspirations just like everyone else. Trayvon Martin loved aviation so much so that he gave up his high school career in football to enroll in this program. Source.

The recent publicity of the unlawful killing of black people have made a few things very clear.
- The cops do not care about black people.
- White people refuse to acknowledge obvious disparities in their morals because, assumedly, black life is not worth as much as white life.
- There are black people who truly do not understand the danger they are in.
With these three facts present, our black community presents possibility for action. We will boycott businesses that are not black owned, hoping to achieve a few different results. The first, as untouchmyhair put it, is that the black dollar WILL matter. If people do not respect the black life, maybe they will respect the black dollar. Second, the boycott combined with word of mouth will raise awareness on the very important aforementioned issues.
So, with that, I ask all of my followers to make a sacrifice or two while we try and show our country that we matter.
I found myself wondering where I would shop. H&M, Old Navy, Forever 21? Definitely not. Therefore, for all those frequent shoppers, shoe junkies and beauty queens I have decided to compile a list of online black owned shops. Feel free to send me a message with your business, or your favorite store and I will add it to the post.
This boycott is only as effective as WE make it! So, I implore you, make this one count. I am tired of fearing for my life, and the lives of the children I haven’t had and the people I have not met. How about you?
